Personal Milestone/Baby Room Accomplishment

Okay, this is going to sound silly, but on Monday I reached a personal milestone: I actually bought fabric, by myself, for a real project I am doing/did. Part of my struggle with decorating the baby room/making bedding for the crib was that, as I was fabric shopping, I didn't have anyone there to validate my ideas, like my mom always was when I was younger. I honestly had the hardest time going to the cutting counter to get fabric cut. It was terrible! But Monday, I finally managed it! I bought fabric to make a crib skirt for the crib.

Now this was also a feat. I knew that I wanted the baby room to obviously belong to a boy. But, I didn't want the decor to SCREAM boy with fabric that had trucks or cars or sports or the like on it. I knew I loved a star theme, but did not want it to turn into an astronomy theme either. So, I found a compromise. This is the result:

The fabric for skirt reminded me of stars, without being stars, and the light blue in the skirt exactly matches the star theme sheet! The pillow was a find at Bed Bath and Beyond that David could not leave behind. Not that I blame him, it was like $2. I made the skirt yesterday and had to be a little creative with the design because of the way the mattress support fits into the crib frame. But all in all I think it turned out well. :)

How absolutely adorable! And I totally understand about having someone validate your opinions, I dragged Eric with me when I went to pick out fabric for the baby quilt I made. I'm not adventurous enough to make a crib skirt... :S You're amazing!

Good job Emily! I think the compromise worked out great...and with the pillow it's like an assortment of "boy" :) Oh yes, and your shower looks like it was a hit!
