Been there, Done that, Got the T-shirt!

Okay, so our half-marathon wasn't as easy as the title of this blog might suggest. In fact, it was really hard. There is just no way to train for the hottest day of the year! The race started at 8:00 am, and by that time it was already in the 70s. By the end of the race, it was 90! We started out strong, but it got harder and harder out in the heat. We had hoped to finish in about 2:30, but needing to slow things down because I wasn't sweating anymore (eek!) meant we finished later. The important thing is that we finished! We made a few friends along the way, including a middle-aged woman who was really struggling in the heat. She wanted to give up. We encouraged her as much as we could and then we were there to cheer/scream her into the finish line a few minutes after us! I really liked the camaraderie people showed along the course. I wasn't really expecting that.

Now I want to run another one just to prove to myself that A) I CAN run farther at one time than I did in this race and B) to get our finishing time down. I still don't consider myself a runner, but I have somehow caught a bug that makes me want to run another 13.1 miles. What is with me??!

Here are some photos to capture the event. Sorry for the "water marks" (Photos courtesy of brightroom.com):

As you can see from this sequence of photos, we were good spirits at the beginning. :)

Right at the end, I got a huge burst of energy and started sprinting to the finish line:

And we were done! No more.

David's parents and my Mom, with Eli, came to cheer us on at the finish line. Thank you thank you! It was so nice to have some cheering fans at the end.

{That is water I poured over me, not sweat}

We received a Medal for Finishing, which we now look at proudly. We are proud we finished, but ready to make another attempt, when it isn't so hot.

Still can't believe I did it. But I did! Woohoo!

Way to go Emily! I don't know how on earth you say you aren't a runner. I know "runners" who don't do half marathons!
